The #1 Question is...
What should I wear for my shoot?!
Here is a general guideline of what works, and what doesn’t. Remember that any of these rules can be broken – but you do so at your own risk!
Good ideas:
All subjects wearing outfits in the same color family (red, black, blue - or grayscale, earthtones, etc)
The same accent color can be nice - i.e. he wears a red polo shirt and jeans, she wears jeans and a black shirt that has the same red layer underneath
Solids are preferred
Fitted clothing (big, baggy shirts can make you look larger than you are)
Clothes that you can move in - you should be able to sit, stand, run, and jump
Nice jeans, paired with a dressy top
Accessories (think fun hats, necklaces, sunglasses, jackets, scarves, etc.)
Bringing one dressy outfit and one casual outfit - or different shirts and shoes to change the look
Bad ideas:
Bright white shirts (though sometimes white looks lovely, it is just that ivory or cream are better)
Loud patterns
Shirts with writing or other graphics
Sleeveless shirts (ok for women as long as they are fine with their arms)
Polo shirts (fine for men, bad for girls)
Shirts with short or weird hemlines - same thing for skirts!
Avoid a lot of jewelry - if engagement or wedding shots, no other rings on that hand please
Short skirts, low necklines - anything you might wish you hadn't worn when your grandchildren see the photos!
Exact matching outfits – unless it's children that are matching - adults should be complementary, but not matching

Any props you want to use.. A frisbee, cowboy boots, dogs, anything that makes one or both of you happy or symbolizes something you enjoy doing
Flip flops (if you plan on wearing heels, to walk around in and because flip flops make for a few fun photos)
A poster board - think "Hi Mom!" or "Happy Birthday" or “Thank You” - Maybe for a wedding, your name(s), or your wedding date written on it, or "Here Comes the Bride..."
Change of clothes - One might get dirty, or you might want to change for different locations
Headbands, bobby pins, or a ponytail holder
Other things to consider:
- Wear something tailored...nothing too baggy or super tight. No big shoulders, poofy sleeves
